Michael Jackson Videos: The Best Of The Best

As the world mourns the death of Michael Jackson, it will not only be the songs by which we remember the King of Pop. Michael revolutionized the art of the music video -- using choreography, costume, dance, drama, celebrities and, of course, his own persona to create something visually spectacular to go with his music.

We will always remember M.J.'s videos. Here are the best of the best (click here to see HuffPost's Michael Jackson Life In Pictures slideshow and here for an M.J. style retrospective.) :

Nacha Pop - La chica de ayer

Did you know that this famous song was also translated to English and recorded by an American band called a version called Gigolo Aunts?

THE GIRL FROM YESTERDAY"
(Antonio Vega)

One day you don't even know what time it is
You lay by my side but still you don't know why
The empty streets have seen you grow and change
But I know in your heart you might be crying again

I look out of the window for the girl I knew yesterday
Smiling in the flowers of my favorite garden
Too hard to understand too late to comprehend
While you and I can never be together again

The early morning light that slowly fills the room
Makes your golden hair shine like the sun
And late up in Penta I'm still listening to
Every song that ever made me fall for you..fell for you

I look out of the window for the girl I knew yesterday
So hard to understand there's nothing I can do
Now I'm going out of my mind following you
Going out of my mind following you...

Track info: A Spanish classic introduced to us by our friend the Breadface. We heard the song, liked it and attempted to put our own spin on it. With a little help from Bob Susnjara from the Pyramidiacs we translated the lyrics so they sound almost like English, and later that day, we recorded it in Madrid with the ever-handsome Ricardo. We barely knew the song when we stumbled through it live at Benicassim '99 (I remember staring at Dave's hands for the chord changes). The audience loved it though, and the rest is history. -Steve Hurley-

The original version from the eighties by Nacha Pop makes reference to local clubs in Madrid. A few years after the death of the Spanish dictator Franco, Spain finally became free and this led to a new scene that lasted for at least a decade. It was so important that even till today, Madrid is one of the most famed cities for nightlife in the world. The Penta was the first (or the second) real club with live music from the new Madrid band scene. The group Nacha Pop originated from this scene and were at a daily basis in Penta, either playing or listening to other bands. The band broke up and one of the 2 main members continued a solo career : Antonio Vega. The song has gotten a come-back in Spain with the Gigolo Aunts version. It has been recently used for a local commercial and it has made everyone wonder who the Gigolo Aunts are. - Thanks to Marc from Madrid for the missing words and the song's story!

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

Arguably Buckley's most famous work, this was originally written and recorded by Leonard Cohen in 1984 on his album Various Positions.

Buckley started covering this after he became inspired by John Cale's version off his 1992 album Fragments Of A Rainy Season. Cale shaped his own interpretation after Cohen faxed him 15 pages of lyrics for this song. He claimed that he "went through and just picked out the cheeky verses."

Rufus Wainwright recorded this for the 2001 movie Shrek. Wainwright did not sing on the version used in the film (John Cale did), but his version is on the soundtrack. Wainwright records for Dreamworks, who also distributed the movie. Wainwright had an album coming out a few weeks after Shrek was released, so this was good promotion for it.

BEGGIN'

Nice song. Let's sing along!

Tshawe Baqwa]
Oooooh–
Put your loving hand out, baby
I’m beggin

Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

Ridin high, when I was king
Played it hard and fast, cause I had everything
Walked away, won me then
But easy come and easy go
And it would end

[Tshawe Baqwa]
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out, baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

[Yosef Wolde-Mariam]
I need you, (yeeah) to understand
Tried so hard
To be your man
The kind of man you want in the end
Only then can I begin to live again

[Tshawe Baqwa]
An empty shell
I used to be
Shadow of my life
Was hangin over me

A broken man
Without a throne
Wont even stand the devils dance
To win my soul

[Yosef Wolde-Mariam]
Im fighting hard
To hold my own
No, I just cant make it
All alone

Im holdin on
I cant fall back
Now that big brass ring
Is a shade of black

[Tshawe Baqwa]
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out, baby
Beggin, beggin you
Put your loving hand out darlin

RESONANT CHAMBER

Report "Resonant Chamber" is the 3rd piece on the Animusic 2 DVD. It's a purely acoustic number played by a complex multi-necked stringed instrument in a peaceful inner chamber high up in the sky. Four different moons are seen out the four windows.

SIMPLE MAN

Another beautiful song, this time by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Van Zant's most beautiful and inspirational song, "Simple Man", off Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album is a tribute to Ronnie Van Zant's grandmother, and a tribute to mothers and grandmothers anywhere. With huge, almost orchestral, keyboard parts and the standard Skynyrd guitar riffs, musically "Simple Man" simmers. The re-formed band often plays "Simple Man" as a tribute to their late lead singer.
